Current program topics posted include:
• Bullying
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior may be repeated. Both those who are bullied and those who bully others may have serious lasting problems. This is a very pressing and damaging issue that affects all involved in the short and long run.
• Community Beautification
Community beautification is an issue that is overlooked by many. This is a topic that benefits not only the individual, but your community as well. Volunteer-led programs and projects are some of the most minimalist ways to improve and grow your direct environment.
• Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a timely issue. Diversity includes presence of differences, equity is promoting justice, impartiality, and fairness, and inclusion is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse feel or are welcomed.
• Homelessness
There are hundreds of thousands of people experiencing homelessness in America. They are individuals and families, they live in every state and territory, and they reflected the diversity of our country. They include those who are chronically homeless, those with disabilities, and veterans. Ending homelessness is an ongoing challenge that changes in each community. Locating the areas experiencing the most significant challenges and directing additional attention and possibly new resources towards them could result in meaningful reductions in homelessness.
• Hunger and Food Insecurity
An estimated 1 in 8 Americans struggled with food insecurity in 2020. Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for a healthy life. Hunger, however, is the actual feeling of discomfort due to a need for food. These issues go hand and hand in this important issue for the nation and the world.
• Physical Activity
One in ten premature deaths could be prevented by getting enough physical activity. As of 2022, about one in two adults live with a chronic disease. (About half of this group have two or more.) Only half of adults get the physical activity they need to help reduce and prevent chronic diseases. A consistent level of activity across the United States would help people become a healthier and more resilient version of themselves.
• Textiles for Good
This program is a group of ideas for small but equally important programs involving textiles and apparel. There are many different and overlooked opportunities when it comes to this area of study, and the possibilities are endless. Creativity and inventiveness are a key component in both this industry as well as the service opportunities.
