Guidelines for Chartering a Chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu

Chartering is the process of starting a new chapter on a campus. Campus officials petition for a chapter, and the Kappa Omicron Nu Board and chapters approve the charter.

Eligibility Criteria for Chapters

  1. The institution is accredited by its regional accrediting agency.
  2. The institution offers one or more programs leading to a baccalaureate or advanced degree.
  3. The unit has sufficient qualified students and faculty to maintain an active chapter. KON defines sufficient as a minimum of five students and one adviser.
  4. Institutional administrators and faculty support the mission and bylaws of Kappa Omicron Nu, including the means for sustaining service to all chapter members.

Application Procedure

  1. Complete this application with required attachments.
    1. Draft chapter bylaws.
    2. Letter of support of the program from department leader such as a department dean, which will include agreement to the pledge written below, as well as their own personal thoughts on support of the new chapter.

Following BOD approval, the chapter petition is forwarded to all other chapters for approval.
  4. If approved by the chapters a chapter name will be bestowed upon the new chapter.
  5. The chapter elects candidates for membership and issues invitations.
  6. The chapter adviser will plan an installation ceremony, and work with the National Office, who will provide a representative to attend either virtually or in-person depending on the location of the incoming chapter.
