Member Spotlight - June 2012
Joyce Lofstrom, MS, APR is Director, Corporate Communications, for HIMSS, a cause-based, not-for-profit, organization focused on improving healthcare delivery with the best use of information technology. Lofstrom earned her Bachelor’s Degree in home economics-journalism in 1974 and her Master’s Degree in home economics-communications in 1983, both from the University of Missouri. She first joined Kappa Omicron Nu during her graduate school studies in Columbia, Mo.
Lofstrom’s career as a journalist and public relations professional has focused on health, food and nutrition, with experience as a newspaper food editor and restaurant critic, and public relations manager for Farmland Foods, Inc. and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. In her current role at HIMSS in Chicago, she oversees corporate communications, public relations and media relations initiatives, using her writing skills and continued focus on good health in support of the nationwide adoption of electronic health records.
She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Public Relations Society of America’s Health Academy and of the University of Missouri’s Griffith’s Leadership Society for Women, a mentoring and networking organization for female students and alumnae. She is a native of Kansas City, Mo.
