Topic: International Issues: Discussion, Theories, Research
Guest
Editor: Dr. Elizabeth B. Goldsmith, Professor and
Fulbright Scholar, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL
USA
Objectives:
This theme issue will stimulate international thought and
collaboration. It will present state-of-the-art scholarly
articles about what is happening with families and communities
around the globe and possible future directions for improving
the quality of everyday life. This issue serves as a gathering
point, an inspiration for aspiring and established leaders in
home economics/family and consumer sciences/human
ecology/human sciences (hereafter human sciences) and all the
specializations.
Overview:
As an applied social science, human sciences seeks to enrich
the lives of individuals, families, and communities worldwide.
The goal of this special theme issue is to bring together the
best scholarship in Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa,
Australia, and the South Pacific. Cross-national
collaborations are encouraged as we seek to describe not only
the problems but the solutions to improving the quality of
everyday life. Authors are asked to focus on strengths, ideas,
and programs that work. In the interest of progress in the
field, it is worthwhile to combine in a single issue the best
of research and theoretical thinking about environmental
issues, consumerism, education, and resource and relationship
management. Each article will conclude with implications for
future directions and an explanation of how the findings
reported can be helpful to other nations. How can we embrace
our differences and learn from each other? Understanding the
world context is more readily achieved when we come together
and share our current thoughts and discoveries.
Discussion:
The collection of articles is intended to provide
educators, researchers, theorists, and citizens a rich
understanding of global issues. Settings include education,
extension, industry, commerce, government, and civil society
(NGOs, CSOs): all the realms
in which human scientists work and serve. A variety of
articles are sought. The subjects are open but may include
theoretical, conceptual, methodological, and research-based
essays that utilize narrative, critical, qualitative,
quantitative/experimental, and mixed approaches. In all
articles, a review of the pertinent literature, description of
the country and population, and thoughtful analyses are
expected.
