Call for Undergraduate Student Research
Papers for presentation at the 2008 Annual Meeting in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (June 19-22, 2008) of
the
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF FAMILY & CONSUMER
SCIENCES

Undergraduate student members of Kappa Omicron Nu and Phi
Upsilon Omicron are eligible to submit research papers for
presentation at the American Association
of Family and Consumer Sciences Annual Meeting in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. A committee of professionals reviews all submitted
research papers, and one will be selected for presentation.
Applicants should understand that an award carries the obligation
of presenting the paper at the Coordinating Council
of Honor Societies Luncheon at the 2008 American Association
of Family and Consumer Sciences Annual Meeting, June 19-22,
2008 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
CRITERIA FOR
SELECTION
The following six criteria will be used in selecting the
paper to be presented:
Relevance to human sciences
Scholarly presentation
Justification for the study
Logical organization
Mastery of the subject
Appropriate documentation
PAPER SPECIFICATIONS
Papers submitted for consideration may describe student projects
or research from seminars, independent studies, or class projects
in the student's major, and must be completed between January
1, 2007 and April 1, 2008.
Papers must be submitted electronically as a Word attachment
and should be five to ten pages in length. The document you
are submitting should be double-spaced, using an easy to read
font such as Times New Roman or Arial and no less than a 10-point
font.
When submitting your research paper, identify your email
message subject as "CCHS Undergraduate Research Award
Submission."
Only papers from completed research projects will be considered
for the award. Papers may be submitted only one time.
Students who completed their degrees in August 2007 or December
2007 and have graduated are still eligible to be considered
for this award.
APPLICATION
AND REVIEW PROCEDURES
The copy of your research paper must be submitted electronically
to:

Papers must be postmarked no later than May 1,
2008.
A cover page identifying the author's name, address (permanent
and school), phone number (permanent and school), e-mail address,
name of college/university, name of honor society in which
membership is held, name of chapter advisor, name of the writing
advisor, student status (i.e., junior or senior). No identification
of the author or chapter should appear on the pages of the
paper.
If a research paper carries multiple authors' names, all
must be students.
Papers will be reviewed by a committee of leaders from the
two national honor societies. Selection of the paper for presentation
will be completed and participant notified no later than May
15, 2008.
PRESENTATION
AT ANNUAL AAFCS MEETING IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN (June 19-22,
2008)
The student whose paper is selected will present the paper
at the joint function of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Kappa Omicron
Nu during the AAFCS Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Presentation will be 10-15 minutes in length.
Presenter is responsible for expenses incurred in attending
the AAFCS annual meeting. An honorarium check for $750.00
will be awarded at AAFCS to the presenter.
